Plant Description

Lysimachia nummularia

This ground-hugging plant, Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea', known as golden creeping Jenny or moneywort, has brilliant golden foliage, rounded in shape, which tends to be lime-green if grown in a partly or dappled shady spot. It does need a degree of moisture or it will languish and eventually die. The stems take root when they touch the ground and it can spread quite widely when happily situated. It is a tolerant plant climate-wise, growing in cold and warm climates alike. It can form a pretty tapestry when grown with other groundcovers such as Campanula poscharskyana, Ajuga cultivars and forms of Lamium. The plain green species of this Lysimachia is regarded as something of a weed and best avoided.
