Plant Description

Salvia Josh

Salvia Josh

I bought this Salvia at an open garden in Ipswich during a trip to Queensland in 2012. I had never seen it before but it seems to be making a name for itself these days. It is a hybrid plant (possibly between Salvia oresbia and a Salvia microphylla cultivar), which originated in Queensland. It has brilliant red flowers over a long period in summer and autumn. It grows to about 1 m tall and tends to layer a bit. It grows easily from cuttings. It will flower even when grown with a degree of shade. Cut it back almost to the ground in late winter.
