"Late prune May & Philadelphus"

Started by Anne - 2031 Friday, 19 February 2021
Hello, Doing a little garden renovation. Have a hedge of May Bush (Spiraea cantoniensis) and one Mexican Mock Orange (Philadelphus mexicanus). I know that are supposed to be pruned after flowering but would it hurt to cut both plants back now? I realise I might not get flowering next Spring. Both plants are roughly fifteen years old, 1.8 metres high and have never been pruned. Any advice greatly appreciated, Anne
