Fraxinus Griffithii

This is a weird one. Two years ago I bought a Fraxinus Griffithii (Flowering Ash) and until recently it has been going very well and has reached around the three metre mark. Fist thing I noticed was a thickening of the main trunk at the top 30 cms, this was followed by leaf drop (no yellowing) and then branchlet (c. 15cms) drop. Sometimes the whole branch would drop with all leaves still attached. I cut the offending branch off at the main trunk. There were two similar size branches and it seemed to be on the way again until now the same thing is happening to the remaining branch. I noticed the centre of the branch seemed to be almost hollow (see attached image)and I believe this may have something to do with the problem. Any input would be appreciated. Ron
