Screen ugly west facing wall

I have to screen a west facing wall that houses some ugly equipment at the entrance to our studio. I"ve made a well dug garden bed and erected a strong reinforcing mesh stupport for vines. BUT...what vines will do well on a hot western wall in the subtropics? I"ve considered passionfruit but think perhaps the site is not well drained enough, despite double digging, gypsum etc. Now I am thinking of Petra volubilis as it thrives in the subtropics, is said to be hardy and extremely fast growing. If anyone has other suggestions or comments on this...I would greatly appreciate it.
