Thought it might be a good idea to buy a garden book (new gardener)as know nothing, can you suggest something easy to read and understand having lots of luck with everything I have planted so far and just love the garden grow. At present watching some of my bulbs coming though so happy, by the way I only have a small mixed garden live in a townhouse Thankyou for helping
Hi Christine - I found Shirley Stackhouse"s book Gardening Year to be really good when I was starting out. There is a relatively new edition that updates all the information in the original. There is also Dig, by Meredith Kirton. That one is also coming out as a new edition later this year. Deirdre
Thank you so much you are my angel of the garden, so glad I found you
I also find Shirley Stackhouse"s "Gardening Year - A Month by month guide to the Garden" most useful for Australian gardeners. Published in paperback 1981-1991, so possibly still available. I once visited her garden on Pannant Hills Rd, Sydney. Ann 2076
Florilegium has copies of Shirley"s book - the 1981 edition - available for $10.00. Gil Teague
Christine, have you looked around Op shops. I have managed to get some amazing gardening books for basically next to nothing, as we started a new garden just over 2 yrs ago after building a house and having a blank canvas. All our gardening has been done on a miniscule budget and the addition of some cheap informative books has been such a great help.
Thanks Lyn, I never thought of Op shops I have a friend who works in one and just rang her to keep an eye out for some.
Thankyou Patricia, I will look for them at Library today as I am having so much fun with gardening now I have started. My sweetpeas are coming out at present and boy are the great, only problem is I planted them too close together lesson for next year.
The shirley stackhouse book is great, i found michael mcoys garden really entertaining but its more of a journal.
