Semi-arid gardening

Hi Guys, While I love to read about your beautiful temperate gardens and sympathise about winter chills, I"d appreciate if anyone has information or comments about plants robust enough to face the "spring" and summer temperatures and heat. I am in a semi-arid to arid area where rainfall is pretty much limited to a few months at the beginning of the year. I"ve managed to get a good backbone of hardy shrubs and bulbs established in my garden, but more information and suggestions are always welcome. Mulch and compost data re semi-arid to arid areas is an important interest for me too. Thanks! Chris W.
